Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture needlelike or prismatic lead titanate particles by mixing lead nitrate or the like and oxalic acid in a lower glycol soln. and reacting the resulting powder with needlelike titanium dioxide.
CONSTITUTION: Lead nitrate and/or lead acetate and oxalic acid are reacted in a soln. of a lower glycol such as ethylene glycol or propylene glycol to obtain fine lead oxalate powder. This powder is optionally heat treated and reacted with needlelike titanium dioxide to manufacture needlelike or prismatic lead titanate particles. The needlelike titanium dioxide particles used are prepared by slowly oxidizing a strongly acidic soln. of titanous chloride such as titanium trichloride with an oxidizing gas at 50°C W the b.p. of the soln.
