Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to evaluate defective depth by using an ultrasonic wave beam such as a focusing beam, by determining a defective size on the basis of the angle, etc., of a fan-shaped scan of the ultrasonic wave beam.
CONSTITUTION: Variable-angle ultrasonic probe 1 is formed of concave-surface vibrator 4 incorporated with circumferential element 3 reciprocating in contact with fixed shoe 2 and probe 1 takes a fan-shaped scan of an ultrasonic wave beam to inspect the defect of tested body 6. According to refraction angle (θr1) corresponding to the scan angle of probe 1 at the point in time when a vertical cracking defect of tested body 6 is detected and refraction-angle variation (Δθ) corresponding the increment of the scan angle until the defect disappears, arithmetic based upon formula I is carried out to determine cracking depth (d). Here, T is the thickness of the tested body and W is the width of the ultrasonic wave beam. Consequently, the cracking depth can easily be measured by using a fine ultrasonic wave beam through the measurement of angle of a fun-shaped scan beam corresponding to variation in refraction angle without movement-distance measurement.
