Abstract
Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.液晶モジュールと、 上記液晶モジュールに近接配置された光学キャビティとを備え、該光学キャビ ティは、該光学キャビティの表面に入射した光の偏光方向をランダム化し、 上記LCDモジュールと上記光学キャビティの間に配置され、第1偏光方向を 有する光を透過するとともに、該第1偏光方向を有さない光を該光学キャビティ へ向かって反射するために該光学キャビティによって照射される反射偏光子を備 えた光学ディスプレイ。 2.正面偏光子と、 背面偏光子と、 上記正面偏光子及び背面偏光子の間に配置された液晶マトリクスと、 第1偏光方向を有する光を透過するための反射偏光子と、 光学キャビティと、を備え、該光学キャビティは、該光学キャビティの表面に 入射した光の偏光状態を変えるとともに、上記反射偏光子を透過した光を上記液 晶マトリクスへ向かって方向づけるように上記反射偏光子に近接配置された光学 ディスプレイ。 3.正面偏光子と、 上記正面偏光子に近接配置された液晶マトリクスと、 第1偏光方向を有する光を透過するための反射偏光子と、 光学キャビティと、を備え、該光学キャビティは、該光学キャビティの表面に 入射した光の偏光状態を変えるとともに、上記反射偏光子を透過した光を上記液 晶マトリクスへ向かって方向づけるように上記反射偏光子に近接配置された光学 ディスプレイ。 4.上記反射偏光子が、延伸されたポリマー材料の層を含む請求項1記載の光 学ディスプレイ。 5.上記反射偏光子がポリマー材料の層のペアからなる多層のスタックを備え 、該ペアが、それぞれ、第1方向に関連する偏光のために層の間に屈折率の差を 有し、かつ、該第1方向に直交する第2方向に関連する偏光のために層の間に実 質 的に屈折率の差を有さない請求項1記載の光学ディスプレイ。 6.上記反射偏光子が、PENとcoPENからなる層が交互になったペアを 有する請求項1記載の光学ディスプレイ。 7.上記反射偏光子が、PENとcoPENからなる層が交互になったペアを 有し、PENとcoPENの層の各ペアが、空気中で約400nmから800n mの波長を有する光に対して実質半波長の光学的厚さを有する請求項1記載の光 学ディスプレイ。 8.上記光学キャビティが、拡散反射面を有するエレクトロルミネセンスパネ ルを備えた請求項1記載の光学ディスプレイ。 9.上記ディスプレイが上記液晶モジュールに直交する軸を有し、上記ディス プレイは、さらに、構造面材料を備え、該軸に対して予め選択された第1のグル ープの角度で該構造面材料に入射する光が反射し、該軸に対して予め選択された 第2のグループの角度で該構造面材料に入射する光が屈折し、該第2グループの 角度の光の大部分が、その関連する入力ウェッジよりもせまい出力ウェッジを構 成し、上記第2グループの角度が、上記第1グループの角度よりも大きい請求項 1記載の光学ディスプレイ。 10.上記構造面材料が平滑面と構造面とを有し、該構造面が複数の三角プリ ズムを有する請求項9記載の光学ディスプレイ。 11.上記三角プリズムが70度から110度の範囲のインクルーデッドアン グルを有する請求項10記載の光学ディスプレイ。 12.上記三角プリズムが実質的に90度に等しいインクルーデッドアングル を有する請求項11記載の光学ディスプレイ。
