Description

以下の議論は、移動局(Mobile Station)(MS)におけるWLAN情報を提供すること(provisioning)及びシグナリング・メッセージを介してセルラ・ネットワークからのWLAN通知に基づいて不必要なWLANスキャニングを最小にするためにMSにおいて実行される方法を詳述する。cdma2000プロトコルをサポートするネットワークは、以下の議論の中で一例として提供される。本明細書の文脈では、提供することは、WLANとの通信の設定のために必要なMSへの構成情報及びWLANパラメータの通信を呼ぶ。
第1の実施形態では、基地局コントローラ(Base Station Controller)(BSC)及び基地トランシーバ・システム(Base Transceiver System)(BTS)は、セル・セクタ内のWLAN通信範囲の知識を用いて構成される。セルラ・サービス・プロバイダがWLANサービスも提供する場合に、WLAN情報は、セルラ・システムに利用可能である。セル・セクタ内にWLAN通信範囲がある時に、BTSは、共通チャネルを介してオーバーヘッド・メッセージとしてWLAN提供情報(例えば、802.11a/b周波数、ESSID,優先ローミング・リスト、等)を定期的に同報通信する。MSは、WLAN提供情報を受信し、WLANをスキャンするために情報を使用する。WLAN提供情報は、既存のオーバーヘッド・メッセージの内部に含まれている可能性がある。あるいは、WLAN提供情報は、WLAN提供のために具体的に規定されたシグナリング・メッセージの中で提供されることができる。
移動局(Mobile Station)(MS)が通信のために1台のチューナを有する場合である。そのような装置では、1台のチューナがセルラ・システムとWLANシステムの両方と通信するために使用される。MSは、WLAN通信範囲を検出し、WLANとセルラ・システムとの間のシステム選択を実行する。ここでは、MSは、所定の時刻において1つのシステム(WLANまたはセルラ)だけに同調させることができる。
下記の例では、移動局(Mobile Station)(MS)は、セルラ周波数とWLAN周波数とを同時に同調できる2台のチューナを有する。MS300は、図6に図示され、メモリ中に記憶されるESSIDリスト302、第1のチューナ、チューナA304、及び第2のチューナ、チューナB306を有する。チューナAは、WLANとの通信のために構成される。チューナB306は、ワイアレス・セルラ・ネットワークとの通信のために構成される。図示されたように、MS300がアクセスするAP320の範囲内にある場合に、チューナA304は、AP320により送信されたWLANビーコンをスキャンする。WLANビーコンは、定期的に送信され、AP320によりサポートされたWLANを認識する。チューナB306は、基地局トランシーバ・システム(BTS)322により送信されたセルラ・ネットワークからのページング標識をスキャンする。このようにして、MS300は、WLAN通信範囲をスキャンする一方で、セルラ・ページもスキャンする。そのようにして、MS300は、WLAN通信範囲を検出し、そして各々のアクセス媒体に対して1台のチューナを使用してWLANとセルラ・システムとの間のシステム選択を実行する。
Claims (52)
- セルラーネットワークとワイヤレスローカルアクセスネットワーク(WLAN)との間の通信を伝送する方法において、
第1のワイヤレスデバイスで前記セルラーネットワークの共通通信チャネル上でWLAN通知を受信し、前記WLAN通知は前記WLANに対応する拡張サービスセット識別名(ESSID)を含み、
前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、前記受信したWLAN通知に基づいて、第2のワイヤレスデバイスが前記WLANのWLANビーコンのスキャンを可能にする命令を前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに送信する方法。 - 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、前記WLAN通知の受信の通知を前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに伝送することをさらに具備する請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、
前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを前記セルラーネットワークから切断するための命令を受信し、
前記セルラーネットワークから前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを切断することをさらに具備する請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、
前記セルラーネットワークとの通信を再開する命令を受信し、
前記セルラーネットワークとの通信を再確立することをさらに具備する請求項3記載の方法。 - 前記WLAN通知を受信することは、前記WLAN通知を定期的に受信することを含む請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記WLAN通知を受信することは、WLANを前記セルラーネットワークとローミング合意を有することとして識別することを含む請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスは、PCカード、コンパクトフラッシュ、外部モデム又は内部モデムのうちの1つである請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスは、ラップトップコンピュータである請求項1記載の方法。
- ESSIDをESSIDリストと比較し、
ESSIDリストにおけるESSIDに合致するWLAN通知におけるESSIDに応答して、前記命令を送信することを実行する請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記WLAN通知は、前記WLANをサポートするアクセスポイント(AP)の位置情報を含む請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記位置情報を前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスの現在位置と比較し、
前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスの現在位置が前記APと近接しているか否かを決定することをさらに具備する請求項10記載の方法。 - 前記位置情報は、前記APの緯度及び経度を含む請求項10記載の方法。
- 前記第2のワイヤレスデバイス上でAPの位置情報を表示することをさらに具備する請求項10記載の方法。
- セルラーネットワークとワイヤレスローカルアクセスネットワーク(WLAN)との間の通信を伝送する装置において、
第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、
前記セルラーネットワークの共通通信チャネル上でWLAN通知を受信する手段と、前記WLAN通知はWLANに対応する拡張サービスセット識別名(ESSID)を含み、
前記受信したWLAN通知に基づいて、第2のワイヤレスデバイスが前記WLANのWLANビーコンのスキャンを可能にする命令を前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスから前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに送信する手段と
を具備する装置。 - 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスが、前記WLAN通知の受信の通知を前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに伝送する手段をさらに具備する請求項14記載の装置。
- 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスは、
前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを前記セルラーネットワークから切断するための命令を受信する手段と、
前記セルラーネットワークから前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを切断する手段と
をさらに具備する請求項14記載の装置。 - 前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスは、
前記セルラーネットワークとの通信を再開する命令を受信する手段と、
前記セルラーネットワークとの通信を再確立する手段と

第1のワイヤレスデバイスで前記セルラーネットワークの共通通信チャネル上でWLAN通知を受信させ、前記WLAN通知はWLANに対応に対応する拡張サービスセット識別名(ESSID)を含み、
前記受信したWLAN通知に基づいて、第2のワイヤレスデバイスに前記WLANのWLANビーコンのスキャンを可能にさせる命令を前記第1のデバイスから前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに送信させる命令を具備するコンピュータ読み取り可能な媒体。 - 前記プロセッサによって実行された場合に、
前記プロセッサに前記WLAN通知の受信の通知を前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに伝送させる命令をさらに具備する請求項27記載のコンピュータ読み取り可能な媒体。 - 前記プロセッサによって実行された場合に、

を具備するデバイス。 - 前記プロセッサは、前記WLAN通知の受信の通知を前記第2のワイヤレスデバイスに伝送するように構成されている請求項40記載のデバイス。
- 前記プロセッサは、前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを前記セルラーネットワークから切断する命令を受信し、前記セルラーネットワークから前記第1のワイヤレスデバイスを切断するように構成されている請求項40記載のデバイス。
