Claims (12)
- 複数の行電極対と、前記行電極対の各々に交差して配列され各交差部にて表示セルを形成する複数の列電極と、前記表示セル各々内には電子線によって励起されて波長域200〜300nm内にピークを有するカソードルミネッセンス発光を行う酸化マグネシウム単結晶体を含む酸化マグネシウム層と、が設けられているプラズマディスプレイパネルに対して入力映像信号の1フィールドの表示期間をアドレス期間とサスティン期間とからなる複数のサブフィールドで構成して画像表示を行うプラズマディスプレイ装置であって、
前記アドレス期間において、前記映像信号に基づく画素データに応じて前記表示セル各々に選択的にアドレス放電を生起せしめるアドレス手段と、
前記サスティン期間において、前記複数のサブフィールド各々で定められた回数だけ前記行電極対を構成する行電極間に、第1の立ち上がり期間を有する第1サスティンパルス、又は前記第1の立ち上がり期間より短い第2の立ち上がり期間を有する第2サスティンパルスを印加するサスティン手段と、を備え、
前記サスティン手段は、前記映像信号の平均輝度レベルが増加するほど前記複数のサブフィールド各々のサスティン期間内における前記第1サスティンパルスの印加パルス数を増加させ、前記第2サスティンパルスの印加パルス数を減少させることを特徴とするプラズマディスプレイ装置。 - 前記サスティン手段は、前記行電極の電位を第1電位から第2電位に共振遷移させる第1遷移手段と、前記行電極の電位を前記第2電位にクランプする第1クランプ手段と、前記行電極の電位を前記第2電位から前記第1電位に共振遷移させる第2遷移手段と、前記行電極の電位を前記第1電位にクランプする第2クランプ手段と、を備え、
前記第1電位から前記第2電位に遷移させる第1工程、前記第2電位にクランプする第2工程、前記第2電位から前記第1電位に遷移させる第3工程、前記第1電位にクランプする第4工程を順次実行することにより、前記第1及び第2サスティンパルスを生起せしめることを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。 - 前記複数のサブフィールド各々のサスティン期間において、前記第1サスティンパルスは、前記第1電位から前記第2電位に共振遷移する区間において第1放電を生じさせ、前記第2電位にクランプした後において第2放電を生じさせることを特徴とする請求項2記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記サスティン手段は、前記第1サスティンパルスにおける前記第1電位から前記第2電位に向かって遷移させ前記第2電位にクランプするまでの時間を、前記第2サスティンパルスにおける前記第1電位から前記第2電位に向かって遷移させ前記第2電位にクランプするまでの時間に比して長くすることを特徴とする請求項2記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1サスティンパルスにおいて前記第2電位にクランプするタイミングを、前記第2サスティンパルスにおいて前記第2電位にクランプするタイミングに比して遅らせることを特徴とする請求項2記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1サスティンパルスは、前記第2サスティンパルスに比して緩やかな立ち上がり期間を有することを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記行電極対を構成する行電極各々は、行方向に延びる本体部と、放電ギャップを介して互いに対向するように本体部から列方向に突出する突出部を有することを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記行電極の突出部は、放電ギャップ近傍の幅広部と、この幅広部と本体部を連結する幅狭部とを有することを特徴とする請求項7記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記酸化マグネシウム層が、マグネシウムが加熱されて発生されるマグネシウム蒸気が気相酸化されることによって生成される酸化マグネシウム単結晶体を含んでいることを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記酸化マグネシウム層が、粒径2000オングストローム以上の酸化マグネシウム単結晶体を含んでいることを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記酸化マグネシウム単結晶体が波長域230〜250nm内にピークを有するカソードルミネッセンス発光を行うことを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
- 前記プラズマディスプレイパネルは、放電空間内にキセノンガスを10体積%以上含む放電ガスが封入されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイ装置。
