R0=(Nx-Ny)×d・・・(数1)
ここで、R0は薄膜の水平方向の位相遅延であって、dは薄膜の厚さであり、NxとNyは各々薄膜の表面を直交座標で表示する時、ゲート線と並ぶ方向と垂直方向の屈折率を示す。
Rth=[(Nx-Ny)/2-Nz]×d・・・(数2)
Rthは薄膜の厚さ方向の位相遅延であって、Nzは薄膜の厚さ方向、つまり薄膜表面に対して垂直方向の屈折率である。

Claims (8)
- 第1基板と、
前記第1基板と対向している第2基板と、
前記第1基板及び前記第2基板のいずれか一つの内面側に形成されている共通電極と、
前記共通電極が形成されている基板と同じ基板の内面側に形成されている画素電極と、
前記第1基板と第2基板との間に注入されている液晶層と、
前記第1基板の外面側に配置されている準Aプレート補償フィルムと、
前記準Aプレート補償フィルムの外面側に配置されている第1偏光板と、
前記第2基板の外側に配置されている第2偏光板とを含み、
前記準Aプレート補償フィルムは各方向の屈折率異方性がn x −n y >n y −n z であるフィルムであり、n x 、n y 、n z はそれぞれx、y、z軸方向の屈折率であり、
前記準Aプレート補償フィルムのリタデーション[(n x -n y )×補償フィルムの厚さ]は20nmから100nmの間である液晶表示装置。 - 前記準Aプレート補償フィルムの遅延軸は、前記液晶層に含まれている液晶の初期配向方向(ラビング方向)と平行である請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1及び第2偏光板は、偏光フィルムとその両側に付着されているTACフィルムとが結合して構成される請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 厚さ方向の位相遅延をRthとするとき、前記TACフィルムのRthが0nm乃至50nmである、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 水平方向の位相遅延をR0とするとき、前記TACフィルムのR0は0nm乃至50nmである、請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記準Aプレート補償フィルムの遅延軸は、前記第1または第2偏光板の吸収軸と平行である請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極と前記共通電極は帯状に形成されていて、少なくとも一部分が屈折している請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極と前記共通電極は交互に配置されており、屈折した部分を連結する線を基準にして領域を分ける時、同じ領域に含まれている前記画素電極の部分と前記共通電極の部分は互いに平行である請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置。
