Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置は、相対向する第1の基板及び第2の基板と、前記第1の基板の上に配設される一対の電界生成電極と、前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板との間に挟持され、正の誘電率異方性を有する液晶分子を含む液晶層と、前記一対の電界生成電極の上に配設される配向膜と、を備え、前記配向膜は、主鎖と、前記主鎖に連結されている1以上の側鎖と、を有し、前記側鎖は垂直官能基又は極性基を含む。

Claims (23)
- 相対向する第1の基板及び第2の基板と、
前記第1の基板の上に配設される一対の電界生成電極と、
前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板との間に挟持され、正の誘電率異方性を有する液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板との間に挟持される少なくとも一つの配向膜と、
を備え、
前記配向膜は、主鎖と、前記主鎖に連結されている1以上の側鎖と、を有し、前記側鎖は、垂直官能基又は極性基を含み、前記配向膜は、垂直官能基を含む側鎖が連結されている主鎖を1以上含み、極性官能基を含む側鎖が連結されている主鎖を1以上含む、液晶表示装置。 - 前記主鎖は、ポリイミドを含む、請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記垂直官能基は前記配向膜の上部に配設され、前記極性基は前記配向膜の下部に配設される、請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子の誘電率及び比抵抗の積と、配向膜の誘電率及び比抵抗の積との差分が最小化されている、請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子及び前記配向膜は、下記の数式(1)を満たす、請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置:

上記の数式(1)において、εLC及びρLCは、それぞれ前記液晶分子の誘電率及び比抵抗であり、εAL及びρALは、それぞれ前記配向膜の誘電率及び比抵抗である。 - 前記液晶分子の誘電率は7〜25であり、前記液晶分子の比抵抗は1×10−12Ωcmよりも大きい、請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の誘電率は3.5〜4.5であり、前記配向膜の比抵抗は1×10−13Ωcm〜5×10−11Ωcmである、請求項6又は7に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子は、前記第1の基板又は前記第2の基板に対して垂直方向に配向している、請求項1〜8のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子は、電場が加わらない状態で80〜90°予め傾斜している、請求項9に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対の電界生成電極は、第1の画素電極及び第2の画素電極であり、前記第1の画素電極及び前記第2の画素電極は、同じ層に互いに離れて配設されている、請求項1〜10のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の画素電極及び前記第2の画素電極には、基準電圧(reference voltage)を基準として異なる極性を有する電圧が印加される、請求項11に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の画素電極及び前記第2の画素電極は、幹部と、前記幹部から延出した複数の枝電極と、を有し、前記第1の画素電極の枝電極と前記第2の画素電極の枝電極とは交互に配設されており、
第1の領域における前記第1の画素電極の枝電極と前記第2の画素電極の枝電極との間の間隔は、第2の領域における前記第1の画素電極の枝電極と前記第2の画素電極の枝電極との間の間隔よりも広く、且つ、
画素領域の周縁部のうち、前記第1の画素電極及び前記第2の画素電極の前記幹部が配設されていない領域には、前記第1の領域が配設されている、請求項1〜12のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1の領域における前記第1の画素電極の枝電極と前記第2の画素電極の枝電極との間の間隔は一定であり、
前記第2の領域における前記第1の画素電極の枝電極と前記第2の画素電極の枝電極との間の間隔は一定である、請求項13に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 相対向する第1の基板及び第2の基板と、
前記第1の基板の上に配設される一対の電界生成電極と、
前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板との間に挟持され、正の誘電率異方性を有する液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板との間に挟持される少なくとも一つの配向膜と、
を備え、
前記配向膜の上部の第1の比抵抗は、前記配向膜の下部の第2の比抵抗よりも10倍以上大きい、液晶表示装置。 - 前記配向膜は、主鎖と、前記主鎖に連結されている1以上の側鎖と、を有し、前記側鎖は、垂直官能基又は極性基を含む、請求項15に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の上部は、前記垂直官能基30〜35重量%及び前記極性基0〜70重量%を含む、請求項15〜16のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の上部は、前記極性基を含まない、請求項17に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の下部は、前記極性基70〜80重量%及び前記垂直官能基20〜30重量%を含む、請求項15〜18のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の下部は、前記垂直官能基の含量が、前記配向膜の上部よりも5〜10重量%少ない、請求項19に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜の上部と前記配向膜の下部との厚さ比は、1:9〜1:1である、請求項15〜20のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子の誘電率及び比抵抗の積と、配向膜の誘電率及び比抵抗の積との差分が最小化されている、請求項15〜21のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶分子及び前記配向膜は、下記の数式(1)を満たす、請求項22に記載の液晶表示装置:

上記の数式(1)において、εLC及びρLCは、それぞれ前記液晶分子の誘電率及び比抵抗であり、εAL及びρALは、それぞれ前記配向膜の誘電率及び比抵抗である。
