Abstract
【解決手段】TFT基板10上に、画素電極12及びそれを覆う絶縁膜13が形成されている。絶縁膜13には、交互に平行に延びる複数の凹部13A及び凸部13Bが形成されている。各凸部13B上には、共通電極14が形成されている。また、共通電極14と対向して、CF基板20が配置されている。絶縁膜13及び共通電極14と、CF基板20との間には、液晶層30が形成されている。上記構成において、画素電極12に所定の電圧が印加され、画素電極12と共通電極14との間に電界が生じると、その電界の電気力線に沿って、TFT基板10の水平方向で液晶分子31が回転する。また、液晶分子31は、各共通電極14の間では、その中心線Sに対して線対称に垂直方向で傾く。

Claims (4)
- 複数の表示画素を有し、各表示画素は、
第1の透明基板と、
前記第1の透明基板上に形成された第1の透明電極と、
前記第1の透明電極を覆い、平行に延びる複数の凹部及び凸部を有する絶縁膜と、
前記絶縁膜の各凸部上に形成された第2の透明電極と、
第2の透明基板と、
前記第1の透明基板と前記第2の透明基板との間に封止された液晶と、を備えることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1の透明電極に表示信号を供給する薄膜トランジスタを備えることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2の透明電極に共通電位を供給する共通電位線を備えることを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記凹部は、各第2の透明電極間の中心線に対して線対称な断面形状を有していることを特徴とする請求項1、2、3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
