Abstract
998,790. Electric cables. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 3, 1964 [Aug. 2, 1963], No. 30777/63. Heading H1A. A high voltage cable 1 has a layer 3 of resilient conductive material between its core 2 and insulation 4. This layer is smooth outside, but the inside in contact with the core is formed with protuberances such as ribs, corrugations or pimples which facilitate compression when the insulation is wound on. The layer may be made of rubber-like or thermoplastics material loaded with carbon black or metal powder and may be applied as a helical wrapping, or a longitudinally folded tape with a small gap between the edges or be extruded upon the core. In the latter case the layer may have slits to allow the passage of impregnating fluid. The insulation of the cable may be impregnated paper or synthetic film.
