Abstract

1,201,496. Laminates. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 27 Sept., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 43888/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Division H1] An electrical shielding tape comprises a conducting ribbon 12 embedded in insulating material 10, the ribbon having exposed areas 14, 16 on opposite surfaces and adjacent opposite edges of the tape, which is wound with overlapping edges on a cable so that the areas 14 and 16 contact to form a continuous shield. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a flat ribbon (12a) has areas (14a, 16a) exposed in channels on opposite sides of the insulation (10a), adjacent opposite edges, and a raised central guide line (24) on the tape facilitates wrapping. The insulation may be thicker (Fig. 4, not shown) and conductive strips (30) inserted in the channels to contact the ribbon. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the insulating body (10b) is applied in separate strips to each side of a ribbon (12b) leaving exposed areas (14b, 16b) in elongated recesses adjacent the edges of the insulating body. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the insulating body is lenticular, and the conductive ribbon similar to that shown in Fig. 1. The insulating body may be a self adhering silicone rubber, or other elastomeric substance with a suitable adhesive, and the tape may be wrapped longitudinally around a cable.
