Abstract

1493163 High voltage cables TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON 28 Jan 1975 [31 Jan 1974] 3755/75 Heading H1A A high voltage cable comprising a conductor 1 and insulation 3 has a semiconducting layer 4 strongly bonded to the insulation, which layer has a surface resistivity greater than 10<SP>6</SP> ohms/ square. As described the conductor comprises twisted wires, the insulation is formed of polyethylene and the semiconducting layer is formed of polyethylene admixed with carbon black. An inner layer 2 of semiconducting tapes or extruded material may be additionally provided. A further semiconductive layer 5 of plastics material, textile or synthetic fibres, which can easily be removed from the semiconductive layer 4, is preferably provided, this further layer having a surface resistivity of less than 10<SP>6</SP> ohms/square. This further layer may be surrounded by a screen 6 and sheath 7.
