Abstract
983, 090. Sewing machines. DURKOPPWERKE A.G. Nov. 8, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 44088/63. Heading D1G. In a buttonhole sewing machine of the eyelet end type, the rotatable throat plate is provided with a thread clamp so arranged that during rotation of the throat plate to its initial position on completion of a buttonhole, the lower thread is guided into the clamp and the gimp cord is excluded therefrom. The throat plate 8 is formed with a throat 8<SP>1</SP> communicating with a rearwardly-extending passageway 8<SP>11</SP> for the gimp cord 6. A slot 10 extends from the upper surface of the throat plate to the passageway 811, the edges 12, 13 on said surface being so spaced apart as to permit passage of the under thread 4 but to exclude passage of the gimp cord 6. During the final rotation of the throat plate, the under thread 4 passes through the slot 10 and, on its way to the workpiece, is clamped to the rear face of the throat plate at 16<SP>1</SP> by a spring 16 adjustably secured at 17 to the throat plate, while the limb of the gimp cord 6 extending to the workpiece passes over the upper surface of the throat plate, the gimp cord being bent upon itself at the rear edge 15 of the throat 8<SP>1</SP> as shown in Fig. 4. Thread 4 and cord 6 are then severed simultaneously to form the respective ends 4<SP>1</SP> and 6<SP>1</SP> as shown in Fig. 7, in readiness for the commencement of the next buttonhole.
