Abstract
1,204,439. Sewing-machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. 17 Oct., 1968 [9 Oct., 1968], No. 49218/68. Heading D1G. In a blind stitch sewing machine a curved needle runs along a line 28 through slots 26', 27' in a base-plate the upper limit of the slot being defined by blades 32, 33 which depend partially into the slots. A node is formed in the fabric by a plunger or anvil 18 which has a slotted head 18' and which co-operates with an interchangeable block 43 to vary the size of the node and hence the bite of the needle in the fabric. The blade 32 is not as thick as the slot is wide so that the needle thread can pass out of the slot after stitching and during the movement the blade 32 serves to separate the two threads passing from the needle eye namely the thread from the eye to the fabric and the trailing end of the thread from the needle eye. The machine comprises a curved needle 13 and two oscillatory holders 10, 11 for transferring the needle back and fourth therebetween.
