Abstract

826,597. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 2, 1958 [May 3, 1957], No. 10571/58. Class 112 A presser foot adapted to hold a button while the latter is being attached to a workpiece in a zig zag sewing machine has associated therewith means for positioning a member over which the thread loops are adapted to pass, in order to provide a thread shank for the button. As shown, the sole plate 29 of the presser foot is formed in its upper surface with a groove 32 which is positioned to one side of the centre line of the presser foot and extends between an aperture 31 at the rear of the sole plate and a notch 38 in the front edge of the sole plate. The holes 46, 47 of a button 41 are positioned within notch 38 and the blade 52 of a needle 48 is placed in groove 32, whereby the thread loops 49 pass over blade 52. The loose threads thereby produced are bound, after needle 48 has been removed, into a shank beneath the button. For producing a longer thread shank the shank 53 of needle 48 is placed in groove 32.
