Abstract

982,781. Electric clocks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 8, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 8465/61. Heading G3T. An electric alarm clock includes a vibrating arm 18 forming the alarm member and a switch 19, 20 controlling an auxiliary circuit e.g. a radio circuit the said arm and switch being controlled by pushbuttons 1-4. The "on" pushbutton 2, on depression, allows closing of the switch 19, 20 by pivoting the lever 13, and disable the vibrator arm 18. The "off" pushbutton 4, on depression, effects rotation of the lever 13 to open the switch 19, 20 and disables the vibrating arm 18. Depression of the pushbutton 3 moves the latch bar 5 to release the buttons 1, 2 and 4 so that the alarm mechanism is released and operated in the normal manner at the time set on the pointer 3. A lever 33 is connected by a spring 35 to the pushbutton 1 and has a projection 33 which co-operates with the teeth of a gear 32 integral with a cam 23 and a gear sector 24 which meshes a gear 25 connected by a friction clutch to a gear 26 driven by the clock train. The gear 32 may be rotated clockwise in stepwise manner by depression of the button 1 one to four times during which movement the cam 23 effects clockwise rotation of a lever 22 which moves a lever 21 to disable the vibrating arm 18 and to move a lever 13 to close the switch 19, 20. As the clock train returns the gear sector 24 the cam 23 moves the lever 22 so that after the pre-set time interval determined by the number of depressions of the button 1 the vibrator arm 18 is freed and the switch 19, 20 opened. Depression of the button 1 when the alarm mechanism is being operated thus results in a temporary interruption of the alarm and depression of the button 1 when either of the buttons 3 or 4 is depressed causes closure of the switch 19, 20 and therefore operation of the radio for a pre-set time interval.
