[Also in Division H2] The stator 3 of an electromagnetic brake is mounted on the gear-box 1 of a vehicle or crane coaxially with the output shaft 23. The rotor 18 is in the form of a non-magnetic, electricallyconductive drum 18 supported by ribs 22 attached to the output coupling 2. The stator windings 14 are arranged in three series-connected groups. The braking torque is gradually applied by successively connecting the three groups across the supply 17.
