Abstract
988, 088. Photo-electric synchronization. A. BELTRAMI. May 31, 1961 [May 31, 1960], No. 19672/61. Heading G1A. [Also in Division H2] A starting system for electric motors comprises a small pilot motor 31 driving a drum 33 carrying oscillogram 34, Fig. 4 which modulates the radiations of a source 35 (Luminous or radioactive) disposed internally of the drum. The arrangement is such that a beam of the radiation analyses successively the whole surface of the drum 33, the resultant amplitude modulated beam being directed towards transducer 36 to produce an electrical quantity varying in frequency in accordance with the speed of the rotor of motor 31 and which after amplification at 37 is fed over wires or by radio to a plurality of motors to be started such as 39. During the starting period of motor 31 the electrical quantity's frequency is as shown at A, the frequency increasing as the motor 31 runs up to its operating speed when the frequency is as shown at B.
