948,144. Waste-heat steam boilers; metallurgical converter chimneys. WAAGNERBIRO A.G. May 2, 1960, No. 15402/60. Headings F4A, F4J and F4X. A waste heat utilization plant for recovering the heat content of Bessemer converter blow gases comprises two identical boilers 1 arranged back-to-back, each boiler having an unobstructed vertical uptake 11 lined with radiantly heated water tubes and connected at the top to a downpass 12 in which are disposed banks of convection heated tubes, the downpass being connected at the bottom to an empty up-pass 13 leading to an exhaust fan, the outlet of which is connected to the stack. The converters 20 discharge gas into the uptake 11 through an inlet 14 provided with ports 25 through which secondary air for CO combustion is forced by a fan 24. During the intervals between blowing the down-pass 12 can be closed from the uptake by water-cooled dampers 18 the the boiler output maintained by burning gas from burners 19 downwardly through the convection banks. A wet filter 2 for the removal of dust is provided at the bottom of the down-pass in each boiler, mud-laden water from the filters being clarified in a plant 3, 4. The boilers and wet filters are all arranged in the structure supporting the steel-making plant so as to be accessible from both sides.
