Abstract
947,314. Waste heat steam boilers; metallurgical converter chimneys. WAAGNERBIRO A.G. May 2, 1960, No. 15401/60. Headings F4A, F4J and F4X. A waste heat boiler heated by the blow gases of Bessemer converters comprises radiantly heated tubes lining the walls of ducts 2 conveying the gases from the converters 1 to a common uptake in which are located convectionheated tube banks 8, an oil or gas burner 6 being disposed at the bottom of the uptake to maintain the boiler operation in the intervals between blowing. The flow of gas from the ducts into the uptake is controlled by a hinged damper 5. A tube-lined emergency by-pass duct 4 branches from each duct 2 so that the blow gas from the converter can be passed directly to atmosphere by opening a hinged damper 7, allowing steel making operations to continue whilst the boiler is shut down, for example, to repair damage to the boiler convection heating surfaces.
