Abstract
947,768. Waste heat steam boilers; metallurgical converters. WAAGNER-BIRO A.G. May 2, 1960, No. 15400/60. Headings F4A, F4B and F4X. A waste heat boiler heated by the blow gases from a Bessemer converter has a lower gas receiving chamber 4 lined with radiantlyheated water tubes, the gases flowing upwardly from the chamber in a vertical pass in which are disposed banks of convection heated water tubes. A gas burner 7 is provided in a port in one wall of the chamber 4 for control of superheat temperature and ports 10 are provided in opposite walls for the admission of secondary air for the combustion of CO in the blow gases. The mouth of the converter is spaced from the boiler inlet 3 so as to provide for the necessary viewing of the converter flame, ingress of air into the boiler through this space being prevented by a flow thereacross of inert gas supplied through a pipe 9. To remove the dust and other matter ejected from the converter, particularly when it is blown with oxygen, which deposits in the base of the boiler, the floor of the chamber 4 is made in the form of double flaps 8, Fig. 5, which are hinged at the sides. The flaps are preferably water-cooled. The gases from the boiler discharge into gas cleaning filter plants 12.
