Abstract
1,018,507. Heating steam boilers by waste gases; converter chimneys; smoke hoods. WAAGNER-BIRO A.G. Oct. 25, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 40377/62. Headings F4A, F4B, F4J and F4X. Waste heat recovery plant comprises a hood 3 movably mounted over a converter 1 and opening into a waste heat boiler 11 and a water-cooled slide valve 20 controlling the opening 10 into said boiler. The hood 3 has a telescopic lower extension 2 movable in a seal 4 by a fluid cylinder 5. It is suspended by bars 24 from a carriage 25 movable towards and away from opening 10 on another carriage 26 movable transversely on rails 29. The waste heat boiler 11 is lined with water tubes 12 which enter a hollow frame 13 surrounding the opening 10 around which are also disposed secondary air openings 23. Fluid fuel or pulverized fuelfired burners 22 are operated when the valve 20 is closed while the converter is not being blown and slag is withdrawn through a flap valve 18. The valve 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a hollow panel with vertical walls 30 defining ducts 31 forming a sinuous passage for the water. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), finned tubes are arranged as a panel in a hollow frame.
