Abstract

729,909. Forced flow steam boilers; steam superheaters. VORKAUF, H. Dec. 30, 1953 [Dec. 31, 1952], No. 36213/53. Classes 123 (2) and 123 (3). In a forced circulation waste heat boiler which is heated by corrosive or dust-laden gases discharging for example, from chemical or metallurgical furnaces, the gases are passed into vertical intake duct 9 which serves as a dust separating space and then flow serially through vertical passes 1 .. 4, each pass housing a section of the boiler heating surface 5 consisting of a number of panels 11 of multiple-bend, steam-generating tubes connected between external headers 12 and 13. Located between the respective lower ends of duct 9 and pass 1 and the respective upper ends of passes 1 and 2 and passes 3 and 4 are dampers 8, 6 and 7 which, as shown in the Figures, may be constructed of water-cooled tubes. By manipulation of these dampers any pass can be partially or completely by-passed to allow the tubes' therein to be cleaned whilst the boiler is in service and also to maintain the waste gas outlet temperature above the dewpoint or to regulate the temperature of superheat when a superheater is disposed in one of the passes. In a modification, duct 9 is lined with water-tubes and provided with a burner which is used when starting up to ensure that the temperature of the heating surface 5 is maintained above the dewpoint.
