Abstract

Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; cooling.- In a pulverulent - fuel furnace or combustionchamber a for heating steam boilers and the like, primary air and fuel are introduced tangentially at the same point in the upper part of the chamber, the fuel-pipe c being directed towards a higher point in the furnace than the surrounding air-conduit b and the fuel being supplied at a greater speed than the air, e.g. 150 feet per second as compared with 120 feet per second. The chamber a is formed with a cowled top f through a central aperture in which the hot gases pass upwardly to the boiler or the like. Air, entering from the atmosphere through inlets d in the lower part of the furnace, serves both as secondary air and as a cooling screen for the falling ash.
