Abstract

246,955. Home, S. F. Dec. 3, 1924. Heating by indirect contact of gas-engine exhaust; vertical boilers.-Exhaust gases pass through heating tubes which discharge above the furnace and which are so inclined inwardly and laterally to the axis of the boiler flue that a swirling motion is given to the gases, thus inducing a draught through the furnace. Exhaust gases admitted to a chamber 14 at the base of a vertical boiler pass upwardly through inclined tubes 16 and discharge, into the flue 6 above the conical fire-box 2. The inlet chamber is fitted with a transverse partition 18 at the gas inlet 15. The inner and outer shells of the boiler are each formed in upper and lower parts which are bolted together.
