Abstract

920,645. Discharge lamp arrangements. ADVANCE TRANSFORMER CO. March 16, 1961 [April 6, 1960], No. 9698/61. Class 38 (4). A ballast choke for a pair of switch start discharge lamps connected in a lead-lag arrangement comprises a main winding L2 in series with a mains terminal 64 and two other parallel connected magnetically-opposing windings L1, L3 each connected in series with a lamp DC, DL, lamp DL having a series capacitor. The windings L1-L3 are spaced by shunts 24, 28 and are mounted on an elongated core 22 which may have a saturation relieving slot 54. Increase of starting current in the capacitive branch may be achieved by an additional winding L4. Other arrangements are described in the Specification in which the windings are connected together by means of a tap on one of the windings.
