Abstract

[Also in Division H1] A circuit arrangement of the semi-resonant type for the operation of electric discharge lamps includes a ballast unit having two primary windings P1, P2 connected in series between a supply terminal 10 and a filament 12 of the lamp 13 and two secondary windings S1, S2 connected in series with a capacitor C between the two filaments 12, 14 of the lamp.' The primary and secondary windings are wound on a four-limbed core 15, 16 having air gaps between the limbs. The reactance values of the components are such that the circuit develops the necessary starting voltage and after ignition of the lamp the voltage is reduced to the normal operating value. The coils P1, S1 may be wound on a common former as may be the coils P2, S2.
