Abstract
1,247,409. Control systems for gas discharge lamps. NOKIA A.B., OY. 9 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 23826/69. Heading H2H. A system for starting a discharge lamp 10 comprises a resistor-capacitor circuit 8, 9 connected across an A.C. supply so that when the capacitor 9 is charged to a predetermined voltage a diac 7 breaks down to trigger a triac 6 thereby energizing the primary winding of a transformer 5, the resulting high voltage of the secondary winding being used to start the lamp 10. The energization of the primary winding occurs in every half-cycle of the A.C. supply and the capacitor 9 fails to reach the breakdown voltage of the diac when the tube 10 is illuminated. In a second embodiment the choke 2 forms the secondary winding of the transformer.
