Abstract

916,196. Respiratory apparatus. IWAT, R. Feb. 28, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 7291/61. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] An oil atomizer for respiratory use comprises an oil vessel 1 with an air inlet 3, an outlet 9 and a motor rotatable shaft 11 in the vessel, the shaft carrying a bladed agitator 13, bladed atomizers 14, 15 and a propeller 16 which acts as a flywheel. An induction motor 12 is fixed on the vessel 1 so that the shaft 11 projects downwardly into the vessel. Oil is poured into the vessel through a tube 3 having an apertured cover 4. An apertured disc 6 is rotatable beneath the cover so that its aperture 8 registers by a variable amount with the aperture 5 in the cover to regulate the flow of air into the vessel. When the shaft is rotated, the oil is agitated to form droplets by the agitator 13 carried by the lower end of the shaft, the oil droplets being atomized by the atomizers 14, 15 and the propeller 16, which are carried at successively higher levels on the shaft. Atomized oil passes from the vessel to a mouthpiece 10. The propeller has a heavy outer ring 17 so that it acts as a flywheel to prevent the speed of rotation of the shaft changing abruptly.
