Abstract

914,831. Clamps for lifting sheets. RENFROE, R. L. Nov. 26, 1959 [Aug. 12, 1958], No. 40131/59. Class 78 (4). A clamp for lifting sheets has one jaw 24 (Fig. 2) connected by a pin-and-slot connection to a lever 40 operated by a suspension link 46, while the upper jaw 52 can be adjustably slid towards and away from the first jaw. In the form shown the second jaw 52 has grooves 60 (Fig. 6) which slide on tenons 58 on a nut 56 engaged with a bolt 68 (Fig. 2) by which the jaw 54 may be held in the locked position. Adjustment of the jaw 54 is by a nut 80 working on a bolt 78 which rotates in a carrier 86 mounted on trunnion bosses 92 (Fig. 4) carried by studs 88 threaded into the outer plates 12, 14 forming the body of the device. The body may be an integral casting or may be built up. In the form shown, the connection between the lever 40 and jaw 24 is by a pin 38 on the lever engaging a slot in the jaw, but the pin may be alternatively carried by the jaw to engage a slot in the lever.
