Abstract

1275190 Lifting clamps J C RENFROE & SONS Inc 14 Dec 1970 [5 Aug 1970] 59226/70 Heading B8H A lifting clamp comprises a body 11 having a slot 15 to receive an outside 17 to be lifted, stationary and movable gripping jaws 18 and 21, the movable jaw 21 being linked to a lifting shackle 33 through a bell crank lever 24, and a locking mechanism for resiliently retaining the jaws in the closed position, the lock including an overcentre linkage and being operable by a hand lever 43 on the body 11. The lever 43 is movable downwardly towards the slot 15 into a locked position and upwardly away from the slot into an unlocked position. The body 11 comprises two spaced plates 12, 13 between which the whole of the gripping and locking mechanism is mounted except for the locking lever 43 which is mounted on the outside of the plate 12. The movable jaw 21 includes an arcuate slot 32 in which a pin 31 on the bell crank lever 24 is slideable, a further pin 38 on the lever 24 being engageable by an end 37 of a coil spring whose other end 39 is coupled to the overcentre linkage 45, 46 associated with the locking lever 43. With the latter in the locking position the pin 38 is biased by the spring 37 into the jaw locking position and contact between pin 38 and spring 37 is released when the lever 43 is unlocked.
