Abstract

1,033,497. Gripping and lifting annular loads. TIRFOR Ltd. March 15, 1965 [March 14, 1964], No. 10816/65. Heading B8H. To grip an annular object 1 one of telescopic rods 30 is pulled out to bring both jaws 31 into engagement with the load. Each pair of rods 13, 30 is looked together by pawls 27 which engage holes in the rods 30. A central hub is rotated anticlockwise by means of a lifting loop 22 until the pivot axes 17 of links 15 move " over-centre " to the position shown chaindotted. This looks the jaws in contact with the load. A further safety catch may be provided. The two rods 30 are connected by levers 42, 45, Fig. 4 (not shown), and a plate 41. The rods 30 may alternatively be moved outwards hydraulically, using bracing members 12 as a fluid reservoir. Clamping means 13, 15, 16 would then be unnecessary.
