Abstract

1,146,891. Hooks. AEROCOMPONENTS Ltd. 15 Sept., 1966 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 6967/66. Heading E2A. A hook assembly comprises a body A, a jaw B pivotally mounted on the body and settable to an operative position, the jaw being provided with a groove I for a link, sling or cable-eye when the jaw is set to the operative position, means e.g. a pawl D for releasably holding the jaw in the operative position, and support means in or on the body whereby the hook assembly can be coupled to load handling means, the assembly being characterised in that when the jaw is in the operative position, the groove I is between the pivotal axis of the jaw and the support means and spans an imaginary straight line passing through the pivotal axis of the jaw and the support means. As shown, the pawl D is loaded by a spring L to its jaw engaging position and includes a camming surface K for positively disengaging the jaw B. A locking lever G or a sliding bolt (not shown) prevents inadvertent use of the pawl lever E. In another arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown) the jaw, in its operative position is closed by a part of the body. In either arrangement the pawl may be operated directly, or indirectly mechanically, electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically.
