Abstract

909,893. Gas filters. TECALEMIT Ltd. Dec. 21, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 42230/58. Class 8(2). A gas filter comprises a main filter element 5 of porous sheet material e.g., paper preceded by a preliminary coarse filter element 23 comprising a porous disc of coherent material e.g. resin bonded animal, vegetable or synthetic fibres providing filtering passages of greater dimensions than those of the main filter element. As shown the latter is of the radially pleated type as described in Specification 909,891 and is held in sealing engagement with the outer rim of a dished annular disc 24 of resin bonded fibres supported by an apertured metal plate 25 by a spring 32 bearing against the bottom of the filter casing 1 having dust-laden gas inlet apertures 14. The cleaned gas, e.g., air leaves through a central tube 12 connected to the air inlet of an I.C. engine. The main filter may be coated with an adhesive substance e.g., rubber hydrochloride and the preliminary filter disc serves to protect the paper element from a reverse flow of hot gas.
