Abstract

590,618. Oil filters. WORTH, T. C. Dec. 13, 1944, No. 25028. [Class 46] An oil filter comprises a casing 1 with a seating 20 for a filter cartridge 14, the casing 1 and a cover 5 therefor having each a spike which pierces the cartridge when the parts are assembled together, the spike 8, which is hollow and slotted, allowing oil from an inlet 4 to pass into the cartridge and the spike 12, which is solid and channelled, allowing filtered oil to pass from the cartridge for discharge through an outlet 10. The cartridge 14 before use contains clean oil 18a and fibrous material 18 such as cotton fibres, glass wool or nylon enclosed in a porous bag 17. If the filter material becomes clogged the cartridge is lifted from its seating 20 against the action of a spring 21, allowing the oil to by-pass the cartridge. Specification 514,803 is referred to.
