Abstract
894,916. Filters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 19, 1960 [Aug. 3, 1959], No. 25110/60. Class 46. A liquid filter unit comprises a housing 24 having inlet and outlet chambers 26, 28, respectively, separated by a partition 30, a base plate 50 and intermediate perforated retainer 48, a first main filter 58, of e.g. pleated corrugated paper, arranged in a passage between the chambers, a second filter 72, of e.g. metal gauze, in another passage between the chambers, and a by-pass valve 56 in a passage between the second filter and the outlet chamber adapted to open at a predetermined pressure differential between the chambers caused e.g. by clogging of the first filter 58. The first filter is supported on its inner surface by a perforate retainer 48 which constitutes a third filter. The unit may be used in vehicle fluid pressure operated transmissions.
