Abstract

555,611. Filters. VOKES, C. G. Feb. 26, 1942, No. 2537. [Class 46] A filter unit comprising spaced concentric starshaped filter elements 19, 20 arranged in series between end plates 12, 15 is by-passed, when the total back pressure exceeds a given value, by moving away from the supply passage 6 against the action of a spring 18, any dirt already removed settling inside the unit. The inlet 11 of the unit may be provided with bypass apertures 11a and carry a bridge 14 coacting with a bolt 16 and a wing-nut 17 for clamping the end plate 15, the bolt 16 being guided in a hole in the plug 2. The element 19 may consist of wire gauze with or without relatively coarse fabric and the element 20 of gauze and finer fabric or felt.
