Abstract

825,299. Filters. COOPERS MECHANICAL JOINTS Ltd., WITCHELL, S. P., and FINCH, G. Dec. 23, 1957 [Feb. 19, 1957], No. 5655 /57. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] A filter unit comprises a tubular element 22 e.g. of resin impregnated porous paper having longitudinally extending radial pleats, having its ends permanently secured to the ends of a surrounding casing the side wall of which is spaced from the element 22 and provides an aperture serving either as an inlet or outlet, and the unit so formed is adapted to be detachably mounted on a conduit 32 serving either as an inlet or outlet. In assembly one end of the element 22 is bonded to an annular trough 21 formed in the closed end of a bowl 17 of plastic material, the other end of the element 22 is bonded to an inverted annular plastic trough 18 and spokes 19 thereof are bonded to the rim of the bowl 17. The conduit 32 is formed in casting 27, having gaskets 25, 26 held against ridges 23, 24 of the casing by a screw ring 28. Oil to be filtered is admitted through an inlet 29 in the casting 27 and passes between the spokes 19 of the space between the outer face of the element 22 and the wall of the bowl 17 thence through the filter to the outlet 32.
