Abstract

778,524. Filters. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 18, 1956 [March 22, 1955], No. 1740/56. Class 46. Filter elements 18, Fig. 1, are each supported by the upper end only from a plate 20, and each comprises a pleated paper tube 38, Fig. 3, surrounding a perforated core 36 between end caps 40, 42, the lower end being engaged by a cup-shaped retainer 48 which serves also to hold in place a flanged protector plate 52. The retainer is connected by a spring 44 to the supporting tube 34. The function of the protector plates is to prevent mutual damage by the filter elements when they swing about as a result of movement of the vehicle or the like in which the filter is located. A down-turned lip may be provided in addition to, or instead of, the upturned lip 56 shown. Water separated by the element 18 from liquid fuel may drain through peripheral holes 58. Demulsifying material, e.g. glass wool, may be provided between the paper 38 and core 36. In Fig. 8, not shown, the end cap 42 is dispensed with.
