Abstract

906,180. Opening containers. PLASTOMATIC CORPORATION. Oct. 31, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1959], No. 37387/60. Class 66. A container 11 of synthetic plastics material has a flange 12 formed with opposed grooves 13, 15 which enable the outer portion of the flange and a cover 16 of plastics film to be torn off. The cover 16, which may be of polyethylene, coated cellophane, or polypropylene, is heatsealed to the flange 12, and they may be used together, after the flange 12 is torn, to form a re-usable cap. A tab 18 aids in tearing the flange. The groove 13 may extend only part of the way round the periphery of the flange 12 so leaving an ungrooved portion of the flange to form a hinge for the cover; similarly, the groove 15 may either be part-circular or endless. The container may be moulded from polyethylene, or polyprophylene. The cover may be of transparent film to enable viewing of the container contents, or it may be treated to make it microporous and allow the passage of gas but not of moisture. The container may be of rectangular cross-section.
