Abstract

1,024,611. Opening containers and packages. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. Sept. 28, 1962 [Sept. 28, 1961], No. 36907/62. Headings B8C and B8D. A sealed container of thermoplastic material is formed with co-acting annular grooves 4, 5 in welded-together radial flanges 1 of the lid 3 and body 2 respectively, the grooves housing a strip 6 of metal or plastics which cuts through the base of the groove 5 when the lid is hit at several places above the strip. The lid is dished or has a downwardly-directed resilient flange 7 co-operating with the interior surface of the body 2, and may be re-applied. Various plastics materials are described, e.g. polystyrene, low pressure polyethylene, and low pressure polypropylene, as suitable for the body 2, cover 3, and strip 6. The strip 6 may be injection-moulded with the cover 3, and may have a cutting edge. The groove 5 may have a part which is thinner than the remaining material of the container.
