Abstract

1320166 Container closures; opening containers METAL BOX CO Ltd 9 June 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 27878/70 Divided out of 1314182 Headings B8D and B8T A closure 10 for a plastics container 11 has a central portion 12 and a peripheral flexible portion 13, connected by a flexible annular element 14 formed by walls 16, 17, 18. The closure periphery and the inner surface of the bore of the container 11 are formed with an inter-engaging rib and groove 22, 21 respectively, the positions of which may be reversed. The closure provides a seal for the container even when the container neck is distorted. The container may be provided with a tear strip 19. The closure may seal against the container by means of a skirt 23, or the seal may be provided by the outer wall of element 14. The central portion 12 may be dome-shaped, Fig. 4 (not shown), or it may be a metallic disc bonded to the adjacent part of the closure, Fig. 5 (not shown). The closure may be of polyethylene.
