Abstract

1378152 Wrapping boxes and lids AGFAGEVAERT 19 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 12439/71 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A paperboard box is covered with heat shrink material and a portion of the heat shrink material which extends over the open end of the box, is pushed into the box before, during or after the shrinking operation. The pushed -in portion is glued or heat sealed to an inner face or faces of the box or clamped against the box wall or walls by a tubular insert 12. A lid may be similarly covered and in one embodiment the heat shrink material (36, Fig. 5) is secured to the inner face of the top wall of the lid (11, Fig. 5) by gluing a paperboard cover (37, Fig. 5) over the ends of the pushed-in portion of the covering material. The covering operation may be effected by enclosing the box in a bag of heat shrink material or by wrapping (Fig. 3) it using one or two webs of such material. The heat shrink material may be films of polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, P.V.C. polystyrene or polyvinylidene chloride. The box may be cuboidal, cylindrical, oval, heart or triangular shaped. The opening may be a small circular opening in a wall of the box and a hard plastics cylindrical insert which is closable by a snap-fit or screw-on cap, is inserted into the opening.
