Abstract

1450813 Food trays INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO 19 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58783/73 Heading B8P A thermoplastic coated paperboard tray in which food can be stored in a refrigerator and also heated has a lid secured by an adhesive which will fail, thereby releasing the lid, on account of internal pressure at a preselected temperature. The tray may be lined with polyethylene and the lid with polyvinyl acetate, this combination gives a suitable seal that fails at the required temperature and pressure. The lid may be secured by an aqueous acrylic emulsion which is a pressure sensitive adhesive. The blank shown is erected to form a tray with a central partition 84 but this partition can be omitted. Corner portions 15a are connected to wall 14a by a fold line 53a and are separated by a cut 54a from adjacent wall 16a, the cut does not extend to fold line 26a so that a land is formed when the walls are erected. The portions 15a are folded on to the outside of adjacent walls and sealed thereto. If only one side of the blank has been coated with the thermoplastic material an adhesive is used to secure the portions 15a. The tray walls diverge upwardly at about 17 degrees to facilitate nesting of empty trays.
