Abstract
904,716. Reciprocating conveyers. HEELEY, J. T. Oct. 27, 1960 [Nov. 13, 1959], No. 38526/59. Class 78 (1). A carriage 10 runs on wheels 13, carries workcarrying grippers at 11, and is caused to reciprocate by endless chain 18 driven continuously by motor 29. The carriage 10 is secured to chain 18 by driving arm 19 ; the hub 21 of which is pivotally carried by said carriage 10 and carries rigidly bar 24. Grippers 11 are rigid with slide 22 carried by carriage 10, and sliding on the carriage against springs 26. Operation.-Chain 18 moves carriage 10 to the left towards sprocket 17. At sprocket 17 the carriage remains stationary whilst arm 19 rotates round sprocket 17; the arm simultaneously causes bar 24 to rotate, the rollers 25 of which bar engage slide 22 to lower then raise said slide. Carriage 10 then is moved by the chain to the right. The effect is to cause the grippers to reciprocate left and right whilst performing an up-and-down movement at each end of the reciprocating movement; whereby a workpiece is received at one end, is transported to the other end, and is there discharged. The carriage may operate valves 28 to cause the grippers to open or close at said ends of movement.
