Class 94(i) [Also in Group XXX] In a wrapping-machine in which articles 11, e.g., blocks of ice-cream, are transferred in succession from the pockets 12 of an intermittently operated conveyer 13 to the pockets 27 of an intermittently rotating wrapping wheel 28, the transfer being effected while the conveyer is at rest by a reciprocating pusher 24 which passes through the pockets, the pusher is moved during its return stroke in the direction of movement of the conveyer and at substantially the same rate so as to be withdrawn through a pocket of the conveyer while the conveyer is in motion. The conveyer 13 comprises an endless chain passing over a sprocket 14 driven through Geneva mechanism by a main shaft 23. The pusher 24 is integral with an arm 31 which is pivoted to an arm 33 mounted on a shaft 34 and is formed with an extension 37 carrying a pivoted block 38 slidable in a cross-head 39, the arm 33 being pivoted at 41 to the sheave 42 of an eccentric 43 secured to the shaft 23. The cross-head is carried by an arm 44 pivoted at 46 to an operating lever 47 which is mounted on the shaft 34 and carries a roller 48 engaging a groove 49 in a cam 51 on the shaft 23. The arm 44 carries a pivoted guide block 52 slidable in a fixed guideway 53. The Geneva mechanism, the eccentric 43 and the cam 51 are so timed that the conveyer comes to rest as the pusher commences its forward stroke during which the cross-head remains stationary. As the pusher commences its return movement, the conveyer moves to bring the next block 11 to the transfer station and the cross-head is moved by the cam 51 to cause lateral movement of the pusher so that it is withdrawn through the pocket while the conveyer is in motion, the cross-head then moving the pusher once more into registry with the pocket at the transfer station.
