Abstract

874,743. Printing processes. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Feb. 8, 1960 [March 18, 1959], No. 9437/59. Class 100(2) [Also in Group XIII] Drying-apparatus. In a process and apparatus for drying ink applied to plastic bottles B, Fig. 1, the bottles are conveyed on carriages 1 mounted on an endless conveyer 2 through a position below gas burners 13 mounted in a burner carriage 3, which burner carriage also mounts a bottle pick-up and rotating device comprising rotatable spigots 17 which are mounted for axial movement towards and away from rotatable pads 27 under the action of a toggle-operating roller 24 engaging cams 25, 26 respectively so that the spigots co-operate with the mouths of the bottles to raise them from the carriages and to press them against the pads for rotation thereby under the action of sprocket wheels 29 linked by a chain 30 to a motor (not shown) on the burner carriage. The burner carriage is supported for reciprocation on guide rods 4 extending lengthwise of the upper run of the conveyer and is connected by pivoted links 7, 8 and a roller 9 with a cam 10 mounted on a cross-shaft 11 having a sprocket wheel 12 by which the shaft is connected to the main shaft of the conveyer so as to be rotatable therewith so that the carriage is reciprocated in timed relation with the conveyer. The burners are connected by flexible tubes 14 with a valve 15 operable by a cam 16 rotatable with the cross-shaft 11 to time the control of the gas supply to the burners in relation to the carriage.
