Abstract
Hyodesoxycholic acid is obtained from crude bile acid mixtures by esterifying said mixture, dissolving the resultant ester mixture in an alkyl ether containing 4-8 carbon atoms, adding to the ethereal solution an aromatic amine of the general formula: <FORM:0901719/IV (b)/1> in which X1, X2 and X3 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals and X1 and X2 can also be a fused benzene ring, separating off the hyodesoxycholic acid ester-amine adduct which thereby precipitates and decomposing it into its components, and saponifying the thus obtained hyodesoxycholic acid ester. As the aromatic amines there may be used aniline, a toluidine, a xylidine or one of the corresponding ethyl or propyl homologues, b -naphthylamine or a 3-alkyl-b -naphthylamine. The crude starting mixture is obtained by saponifying pig bile.
