Abstract
Therapeutic composition for intravenous and subcutaneous clysis comprises an aqueous solution containing 0.04 to 8 mgr/cc. of one or more monohydric aliphatic alcohols containing 4-7 carbon atoms and 0.1 to 2 mgr/cc. of one or more non-toxic acids. Specified alcohols are butanols, pentanols, hexanols and heptanols. Specified acids are phosphoric, citric lactic and glycerophosphoric. The solutions may be made isotonic with sodium chloride and/or glucose. 0.2 to 1 ml. of 3% hydrogen peroxide per 100 ml. of final solution may optionally be added. The composition is intended to counteract the noxious effects of trauma (shock, pain and edema).
