[Also in Group XXVII] A piston for an internal-combustion engine has a crown A resiliently connected by bolts L and springs S to a skirt D to which the gudgeonpin F is connected, a cam J on the small end of the connecting-rod R forcing the crown A away from the skirt at the beginning of the outward stroke to maintain a higher pressure over the first portion of the working stroke. The bolts L pass through bores P in the gudgeon pin and skirt to guide the crown.
