Abstract

877,153. Stop motion and alarms in textile spinning &c. machines. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. March 29, 1960 [March 10, 1959], No. 8198/59. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A stop motion in a doubling machine comprises a plunger having a notch through which all the supply yarns pass and a spring-loaded arm for each yarn which, upon breakage of a yarn, operates the plunger to bring the remaining yarn or yarns into contact with a severing device. The plunger may be operated electrically or mechanically. In Fig. 2, yarns 9, 11 pass over arms 13, 15 mounted to operate rotary microswitches 33, 35 respectively. Upon the breakage of a yarn, a switch is closed to energize a solenoid 23 which withdraws the plunger 25 against the action of a spring 27. The plunger 25 is bifurcated so that the yarns in the notch 29 are drawn against a fixed blade 31 or a heated resistance wire. A warning light or alarm may be operated by the closing of a switch. The switches may be so wired that when the second one is closed the solenoid is de-energized. In Fig. 3, the plunger 25 is operated by a cranked lever 41 pivoted about rod 43 against the bias of a spring 53 and having a button 45 which slides in a slot 47 of the plunger, the lever being maintained in an inoperative position by a pivoted latch 49 which rests on the arms 13, 15. Upon yarn breakage the latch 49 is raised by one of the arms, the lever 41 rotates and the plunger 25 which is slidably mounted is withdrawn. Specification 850,079 is referred to.
